Preparing your home for Rain
It can cause delays in construction, in preparing a home for the market, in marketing the home (think photoshoot, video shoot, virtual tours, etc), in showing the home (who wants to go out and see homes in the rain?), and can have a HUGE impact on the success of a sale if there is any residual damage left over from a big storm.
The biggest mistake I see homeowners making today is not cleaning out their gutters. Gutters get clogged with leaves and debris, water builds up and overflows onto the roof, down into the plant beds, or onto the windows and stucco exterior. The most common damage that we see when listing a home for sale (or sometimes find during escrow) is dry rot damage to the roof sheathing.
Which is why "Cleaning out your gutters" is our NUMBER 1 recommendation when preparing your home for the rainy season.
